Our lawyerly mindset and what can be done about it

Hi gang,

Welcome to Issue #10. I've been thinking about the state of the world, each of you, and wondering how Interconnected Us can be of greater service.

This holiday season, I'm witnessing a lot of beauty, and also, a lot of pain.

Layered on top of our wiring as humans, which include a negativity bias, is our adversarial training, emphasizing a black-and-white, binary mode of thinking: you or me, good vs. evil, scarcity over abundance.

The truth, though, is usually found in middle; shown in phrases such as “yes, and,” or “both can be true.”

This mentality emphasizes the interconnectedness of all things, and is what I’m here for.

Among the healthy mental habits we practice within Interconnected Us, a closely cherished one is generosity.

Wait, haven't you given enough?

Like practicing gratitude, practicing generosity shifts our outlook from a fear-based, adversarial one towards a mindset rooted in growth and possibility.

One dang neuron at a time.

These shifts accumulate in our brains over time, rewiring us to think more compassionately, to take chances, and to see the good in one another.

Why am I telling you all this?

This holiday season, with all that you are doing, with all the directions that you are going in, I hope you'll choose to join us for a "giving circle" on Thursday, December 19 at 3pm ET.

Everyone will:

📈 Introduce themselves

📈 Make an ask of the group, and

📈 Get a chance to offer something to give, too.

Result?

You'll leave with more resources, and new connections.

Register here.

You aren't alone; you are part of one human family. Let's start acting like it, shall we?

xo,

R

P.S. Women in BigLaw: It's not too late to register to join me & the incredible Afi Johnson-Parris for our BigLaw series on Thursday, December 5, at 3PM ET.
