Things have gone stale at work. You’re in midlife, and you feel a little less noticed. And yet, thankfully, you still mattered to yourself: you’re not satisfied with getting tossed around.

It’s time to shake things up.

I used to consider my mindset, and who I surrounded myself with, a solid part of my life without much room for change. Then, when things started to fall apart for me, I reconsidered everything, and eventually, I found freedom.

As a woman lawyer, I struggle with the feeling of overwhelm from time to time. Some of those times go on for days, weeks or even longer, and other times I can recognize it and nip it more quickly. I know that I am not unique.

As the pandemic was starting to seriously affect both my health and happiness - but also my career, I knew something had to give. I realized that I had to form the kind of circle that I wanted. Naturally, I wanted to be in community with women lawyers - women who experienced the same obstacles, but were, like me, wordsmiths, collaborative strategists, impact-seekers, and above all else, smart and brave.

What does combating racism have to do with empowering women lawyers? Everything.
